CUTHBERTSON CUP - Glenbervie

 

Midlothian's Junior team of Jane Turner, Cara Easton, Gillian Simpson and Rachael Watton retained the East Division Junior Inter-county Trophy, the Cuthbertson Cup.  Fife finished in second place.


In the morning singles matches,
Fife beat East Lothian 8-0 and Midlothian beat Stirling and Clackmannan 5-3 (each match is worth 2 points).  The two winning teams played each other in the afternoon and Midlothian beat Fife 6-2. The two losing teams played a foursomes match and Stirling and Clackmannan beat East Lothian by 4-0.

MARY McKENNA TROPHY - Southerness G.C.


Scotland's veteran women golfers won the Mary McKenna Trophy for the fourth year in a row with a 9 ½-4 ½ win over their Irish counterparts, playing under the banner of 'Mary McKenna Select.'  The Scots carried over a 4-l lead from the first day and took the second-day singles 5 ½-3 ½.  Who played whom in the singles ties was decided by ballot rather than by the traditional manner of the respective captains choosing the order.

FIFE COUNTY LADIES SPRING MEETING & CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING

 

Fife County Ladies Golf Association held their Spring Meeting and County Championship qualifying round at Dunfermline Golf Club on Sun 8th April.  Leading qualifier was Louise Kenney (Pitreavie) who had an excellent round of 73 in cold and blustery conditions.  Louise also won the Coronation Medal for the best overall nett score.  The Championship will be held at Dunfermline Golf Club on 21st/22nd April.

SLGA UNDER 16 OPEN STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Craigielaw G.C.

 

Fife had four girls competing in this Championship. It was played in windy conditions on a course with crowned greens and deep bunkers.  Well done to Camilla Tait (St. Regulus) who, with rounds of 89 and 85, finished well up the field beating some of the girls that were playing for the Scotland teams (captained/managed by Elaine Moffat).  Also a great first round of 94 for 11 year old Lauren Whyte (SALJGA) and steady rounds of 95 for Nicola Taylor (Thornton).

 

The SLGA also ran a skills test on the practice day.  Congratulations to Lauren Whyte  for winning the under 12 category and Nicola Taylor  for finishing 2nd in the under 14 category.

R & A BURSAR'S TOURNAMENT - St. Andrews

 

Rachel Cassidy won the women's event and has won a place in the LET Scottish Open to be played in September at the Carrick, Loch Lomond and also in the Women's Open Pro Am at St Andrews preceeding the Women's Open on the Old Course at the beginning of August.

The first event of the East of Scotland Girls Association was played at Thornton and it was great to see so many of the Fife girls taking part. The competition was won by Jane Turner (Mortonhall) with a scratch 73.  Well done to Gillian Ping (Ladybank) who won the best Under 18 net score with 92 less 20 net 72.

LGU SELECT TEAM FOR COMMONWEATH TOURNAMENT


Very well done to Krystle Caithness for being selected for the Great Britain team to compete in the Commonwealth Tournament from 7-11 May in South Africa. The Captain of the team is Sue Turner and the coach is Lawrence Farmer.
