SHERRY CUP - Sotogrande, Spain

 

Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) had a final round of 75 giving her a total of 302 and a share of eighth place in a quality field of top European golfers. In the battle to see who was second in the Scottish contingent, Jenna Wilson just pipped Kylie Walker with an 80 to an 81. They finished 33rd and 34th respectively. Scotland finished in 10th place in the team tournament.

Krystle Caithness from Fife added a second 74 to bring her third round total to 227, and has climbed to 10th place in the Sherry Cup. Her teammates Jenna Wilson and Kylie Walker continue to match each other's scores, this time with a pair of 79s, and they are in joint 33rd place, just one away from the bottom of the table.
The Scottish team total of 472 does not raise them from the bottom of the Team Championship (11th out of 11). They are 33 shots behind leaders Germany and three shots behind 10th-placed Iceland.

In the individual event Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) is lying in joint 16th position on 153 (79, 74) and her fellow team members Jenna Wilson and Kylie Walker are at the bottom of the field in joint 34th position on 166 apiece.

In the team event, Scotland is lying at the bottom of the league table in 11th position after two rounds with a score of 319, six shots behind Iceland and 26 shots behind the leaders England and Germany on 293.


SPANISH WOMEN'S OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Isla Canela Golf Club, Huelva

 

1st round match-play results:

Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) lost by one hole to the 14th qualifier Kaisa Ruuttila (Finland).
Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) went down by 4 and 3 to Sweden's Camilla Lennarth, the No 3 seed.

 


SPANISH WOMEN'S OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Isla Canela Golf Club, Huelva

 

Krystle Caithness swept through to the match-play stages of the Spanish women's open amateur golf championship with a splendid second-round 73 for a qualifying aggregate of 152. Krystle, who turned 17 in January, had looked in danger of not making the leading 32 for the match-play after a first-round 79 but the St Regulus Golf Club member produced her best form when she needed it to qualify in 19th place.

Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) had a pair of 77s for 154 and survived the cut with not a shot to spare in 30th place. Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) did not qualify for the match-play after rounds of 81 and 79.
Krystle plays 11th qualifier Danielle Montgomery from England while Jenna plays the 14th qualifier, Kaisa Ruuttila (Finland).

SCOTS GIRLS FOR SPAIN

Three Scots, Krystle Caithness (St Regulus), Kylie Walker (Stirling University & Buchanan Castle) and Jenna Wilson (Strathaven), are being sent to Spain to play in the Sherry Cup women's amateur 72-hole tournament at Sotogrande from March 29 to April 1.
Their trip is being funded by the Scottish Institute of Sport.

 


ST RULE TROPHY


Entry forms for the St Rule Trophy on Saturday and Sunday June 3 and 4 are now available from The St Rule Club, 12 The Links, St Andrews KY16 9JB (telephone and fax 01334 472988 or E-mail: struleclub@fsmail.net).
The maximum field is 60 - handicap limit 6.4 - and everyone is guaranteed three rounds, consisting of one round over the New Course, St Andrews on the Saturday and two rounds over the Old Course on the Sunday.
Courtesy practice rounds will be allowed only on the official practice day, which is Friday, June 2.
The entry fee is £30 and the closing date is 12 noon on Saturday, May 6.
